Does my child require a full diagnostic assessment by a Speech Pathologist before being considered for a small group?
Yes. It is highly recommended that your child has been assessed by a Speech Pathologist in the last 3-6 months before booking a FREE Placement Test. Language Clubhouse aims to support children who are on a Waiting List for intervention, or require ongoing support since moving away from their local speech pathology service. If your child is learning English as an additional language whilst their home language is developing well, Language Clubhouse can assist with boosting your child's communication skills in English without prior assessment by a Speech Pathologist, however, priority will be given to children with prior speech pathology assessment and/or intervention.

What role do I play as a Parent/Caregiver as part of my child's involvement in Language Clubhouse?
A Parent/Caregiver is expected to stay with the child for Speech Squad given the age of the child. Children attending Language Circle or Code Crew are familiar with learning contexts, as with school, without the presence of their Parents/Caregivers. Language Clubhouse aims to instil independence in school-aged participants. Parents/Caregivers will be required to attend the final 5-10 minutes of Language Circle and Code Crew. All Parents/Caregivers, regardless of which group their child is enrolled in, will receive a verbal summary of each session and be provided with resources to work on at home until the next session, which will be explained to you.

Why does Language Clubhouse only offer small group programs?
Language Clubhouse has been set up to provide intervention in small groups to, (a) cut down Waiting Lists, (b) include children with mild to moderate difficulties who usually make gains quicker but may not be prioritised for intervention, (c) encourage peer interactions, and (d) reduce feelings of embarrassment and/or being singled out because of a communication barrier.
